TWO patients in northern Lincolnshire hospitals have sadly died from coronavirus.

The deaths happened on Monday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 9, according to the latest NHS announcement.

They take the number with the virus who have lost their lives to 519 - although that doesn’t include people who have passed away in care homes or at home.

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust are currently treating 46 patients with coronavirus.

21 are at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital (with one in ICU) and 25 are in Scunthorpe General Hospital (with one in ICU).

More than 10 million booster jabs have already been given in the UK in a bid to boost immunity ahead of the winter.

Anyone who is aged over 50, works in health or social care, or is clinically vulnerable is eligible to get a jab six months after their last dose.

The government is hoping that more will come forward in order to top-up the population’s protection.

Covid cases are gradually decreasing in northern Lincolnshire.

The rate in the Grimsby region is 360 cases per 100,000 residents over the last seven days, a drop of 7 per cent.

The rate in the Scunthorpe area for the same period is 332 per 100,000, which has also fallen by a per cent.

North East Lincolnshire’s public health director has renewed calls for everyone eligible to get vaccinated after a concerning rise of cases against the elderly.

“It’s never too late to get your first or second Covid vaccine,” Geoff Barnes said.

“There is growing evidence that the effects may wane over time, so anyone who is clinically vulnerable or over 50 should also have a booster jab six months later.

“We are starting to see a concerning rise of Covid rates in elderly people, who are likely socialising more than last year, so it is very important that they get a booster.

“The vaccines have made a massive impact in our fight against Covid. Without them, North East Lincolnshire’s case rates since the summer would have led to hundreds of extra deaths.”
