Brakes put on plans for resort motorhome park
NO SUITABLE SITES COULD BE FOUND IN CLEETHORPES, SAYS COUNCIL
ATTEMPTS to create a motorhome pitch for Cleethorpes have stalled after no suitable sites could be found.
Councillors had been hopeful that a stopping site for motorhomes with facilities would bring more holidaymakers to the area and stimulate tourism.
However, North East Lincolnshire Council’s plans have been put on hold as the available options were ruled out. It could be developed as part of the Cleethorpes masterplan process in future.
However, the owner of Wonderland has also expressed interest in creating one on the former theme park, raising the possibility of a private site.
Council officers initially considered whether land at Meridian Road would be suitable.
However, it turned out that the land was unregistered, and it was thought that the Environment Agency would ask for restrictions on any planning applications due to flooding risk.
The single-lane track was also considered to be unsuitable for motorhomes.
The option of using the Thrunscoe or
Boating Lake car parks were turned down as they were needed for daily parking.
A report which has been prepared for the Tourism and Visitor Economy Scrutiny Panel says: “Currently there is not a site in council ownership that is fit for this purpose, therefore, we would recommend that this matter is raised with the Cleethorpes master planning team and if they feel that it is a matter that requires more attention it should be highlighted and developed as part of that process.”
The masterplan will be looking at the future of Cleethorpes’ development over the next ten years.
