If, down the line, he

ended up joining a National League club,

so be it ...

GRIMSBY Town remain on the hunt for a striker, with John McAtee out injured until December.

The Mariners were searching for a forward prior to their top goal-scorer’s injury but have not found the right fit in the transfer market.

Paul Hurst insisted his transfer plans wouldn’t change after that blow, however, after three straight defeats without scoring, and the injuries piling up, the need for reinforcements has grown.

Hurst is keen to ensure he gets the right fit for the squad, unwilling to compromise the dynamic within the dressing room for any new arrival.

One player that the club enquired about this summer was Omar Bogle, who finds himself on the outskirts at Doncaster Rovers.

“I’ve touched base on that one, and what I can say is it’s not something that the player wants to pursue now,” Hurst told Grimsby Live in September.

“If, down the line, he ended up joining a National League club, so be it, but we have made the enquiry, and that was the answer I got – it’s not something that the player’s looking to do.

“I respect that decision fully, I think it was only right given the connection and history. When I said before we weren’t in for him, that was more as in I know what the situation was.

“I would have thought any National League team is going to be interested in such a player, but that’s not on Omar’s radar, so I think we can put that one to bed, until maybe January and then it’ll it ll start up again!”

The one-time Mariners has been well travelled in the English Football League after making a name for himself at Blundell Park. However, he remains out of Richie Wellens’ plans and is still training away from the first team after failing to secure a move in the last transfer window.

Whilst Bogle was unwilling to drop to the National League in September, two months without first-team football may re-evaluate

Wellens has no intention of reintegrating him back into the squad and, for now, his career is at a standstill.

There’s nothing to suggest Town have made any further contact with Bogle but with Doncaster keen to see him depart, it remains down to the player to sanction a temporary exit.

With Town struggling for goals and looking for a solution to their barren spell, perhaps a second attempt to relight an old flame could be the answer?
