How Town’s players rated in defeat

-

GRIMSBY Town suffered their fourth consecutive loss as strikes from Tommy Willard and Alfy Whittingham helped Aldershot Town to a 2-1 win.

Here is how Grimsby Live rated their performance, with a six deemed par for the course.

James McKeown: Couldn’t do much about either goal, two finishes from close range. Pulled off an excellent stop from Glover’s header to prevent it from being 2-1 in the first half. 7

Michee Efete: Tried his best to get forward and support play. Was a good outlet, at times, but couldn’t quite find the right ball. 6

Luke Waterfall: Won his headers but as the leader of the defence, he’ll be disappointed at how vulnerable the Mariners looked from set-pieces. 5

Ryley Towler: Struggled with the physicality and aerial prowess of Aldershot. 5

Seb Revan: The bulk of the danger came down his and Khouri’s side. Was involved in a heated exchange with McKeown after Aldershot’s second. 5

Ben Fox: Some nice passes with both feet and, as usual, was one of Town’s better players, without being at his best. Subbed on 68 minutes. 6

Alex Hunt: Struggled to impose his passing game on the contest and to match the physical threat of Mo Sylla, who was able to continually burst through the midfield. 5

Erico Sousa: Continues to look dangerous in flashes but that end product is still missing. Booked on the hour for a late challenge which the home fans thought deserved to be red. 6

Harry Clifton: Town’s best player. Works hard and most importantly, tends to have that bit of quality when it matters. He showed great reactions to turn home Fox’s wayward strike into the net. 8

Evan Khouri: Handed his first league start of the season and drifted in and out of the game. Was steady in possession but without offering the same level of threat as the Mariners’ other wide players. 6

Ryan Taylor: Wasn’t involved at all. Struggled to hold the ball-up or pin the Aldershot Town defence. 5

SUBSTITUTES:

Will Bapaga (Khouri, 68’): Dragged a strike just wide from inside the area. Probably should have hit the target. 6

Lenell John-Lewis (Fox, 68’): Didn’t really impact the game after coming on. 6
