A CLEETHORPES paedophile sent 4,000 sexually explicit messages and incited sexual activity with a 15-yearold girl.

Paul Musgrove, 59, of Barcroft Street, was jailed for two years and seven months at Grimsby Crown Court for grooming the teenager.

The offences were committed two years ago, told prosecutor, Richard Butters.

She was naïve and vulnerable. You took advantage of her for your own sexual pleasure Judge Michael Fanning

He said: “There were more than 4,000 highly explicit, sexually graphic messages sent to the girl.

“He was exploiting her naivety. She was 15 at the time and he was 57 years old.”

The prosecutor said after Musgrove’s arrest and in police interview he denied the grooming of the teenager and the sexual activity with her.

He later admitted one offence of sexual activity.

In her victim impact statement the girl said she had found it challenging to go out.

Mr Butters read her statement. In it she said: “I feel scared I could bump in to him. There have been times when I have seen him. I always make sure I go out with an adult.

“I have grown up since he did what he did. I was naïve and vulnerable and he took advantage of this. I think he should be punished for what he did to me.”

For Musgrove, Gordon Stables said his client had a previous “entirely good character.”

He said his client is remorseful and wished to apologise to the complainant. He said: “His motivation was in relation to sexual gratification and he has demonstrated his remorse for the harm he has caused. He, through me, would wish to apologise for his behaviour.

He said his client had an alcohol problem.

Sentencing Musgrove, Judge Michael Fanning said: “It is clear you groomed her with flattery and attention. Then you bombarded her with messages. She was naïve and vulnerable. You took advantage of her for your own sexual pleasure.”

He said there had been a “significant disparity in age.”

The judge added: “It was your good character that gave you the cloak of respectability.”

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed for 10 years and Musgrove will have an indefinite requirement to notify police of his residence and any foreign travel.
