CLEETHORPES Town will be aiming for a club record-breaking seventh successive away win of the season when they travel to Frickley Athletic today.

The Owls’ winning streak on the road in The Northern Premier League Division One East began in August when they overcame Pontefract Collieries 2-1.

Since then, Dave Smith’s men have produced a string of victories away from home bettered only by league leaders Liversedge.

This excellent run of form has consolidated Clee’s position in the promotion mix where they have established themselves in fourth place in the table on 29 points.

This afternoon’s opponents have lost four and won two games at home and occupy eleventh position on 18 points.

Both of today’s teams had convincing away wins at the weekend.

Frickley beat Stocksbridge Park Steels 2-0 whilst The Owls put four past Yorkshire Amateurs without reply.

Asked about his team’s away record, Owls’ boss Dave Smith said: “We prepare in the same way home or away.

“It’s just pleasing to have such a good away run going

“Today will be one of our toughest away days of the season.

“It’s always a stern test at Frickley and it will be no different this afternoon.

“One of our biggest challenges is making sure players accept being part of a squad because places are very hard to come by in the team.

“Having quality players on the bench is a blessing and a problem as any of them would start for most teams in the league.

“However, their chance will come, and they need to be ready to nail down a shirt.

“My teams will look to score goals which may mean we concede a few from time to time.

“Clean sheets are great, but it’s all about the three points really.

“We drill it into players the specific jobs they have to do. I set out the plan and my coaching staff, led by Jon Davy, put on sessions every week that help players understand their role and improve each week.

“Having top players helps as well of course!”
