A SECTION of the A180 will be closed overnight from tonight for road safety improvements which will last for the next four months.

New steel barriers will be installed along the two-mile stretch between Stallingborough interchange and Pyewipe roundabout, Grimsby.

Work on the £2 million scheme will see around two miles of central reservation barrier installed as well as drainage repairs and upgrades to road signs.

Diversion routes will be signposted to the new Humber Link Road to Immingham.

The A180 eastbound and westbound carriageways will close, but not at the same time, between Stallingborough and Pyewipe Roundabout overnight. The opposite carriageway will also be reduced to a single lane while the project is underway. It is due to be completed by the end of March.

Traffic will be diverted using the A1173, B1210 and A1136. Diverted traffic will be able to use the A180 at Great Coates interchange.

National Highways project manager Steve Bishop said: “The A180 is a vital route through Lincolnshire and this essential work will improve safety for the thousands of drivers who use this road every day and create smoother journeys in the long run.

“The current barrier is coming towards the end of its life and it needs replacing. We are working hard to keep disruption to a minimum, but I’d urge drivers to plan their journey in advance when closures are in place.

“I want to thank drivers for their patience while we carry out this essential safety work.”

Improvements to the A180 were carried out earlier this year which saw National Highways do essential resurfacing and bridge repair work.

Now the eastbound or westbound carriageway of the A180 between Stallingborough and Pyewipe Roundabout will close overnight between Monday and Friday, from 8pm to 6am, with occasional overnight weekend working.

Fully-signed diversions will be in place and a 40mph speed limit will be in place 24/7 in both directions so work can be carried out safely.

Steve added: “To keep traffic moving during the day, we’ll open the route, but speed will be limited to 40mph with speed cameras in place. This is to ensure the safety of everyone using the network while traveling through the roadworks.”

?? ?? National Highways say the road safety improvements will make the journey safer and smoother for A180 travellers.
