Hurst: ‘We have no new injury concerns’

PAUL Hurst has confirmed Grimsby Town have no new injury concerns but are monitoring one player with illness ahead of today’s match against Boreham Wood.

The Mariners host their second-in-the-table rivals at Blundell Park in what will be an important clash between two of the National League’s leading sides.

With that in mind, it’s positive news that no fresh injuries were sustained against Boreham Wood, whilst Lenell John-Lewis will be monitored but hasn’t been ruled out of featuring this weekend.

Ryan Sears is available and under consideration after he was hit with a two-year ban from driving for drink-driving.

“We have no new injury concerns, just one player that hasn’t been in today due to illness,” Hurst told the Grimsby Telegraph.

“We will have to check on him whether that’s a 24-hour thing or if he can be involved at the weekend.

“In terms of players coming back, Lenell JohnLewis trained today with the lads that didn’t play on Tuesday.

“We will see how he reacts as to whether he could be involved or not. That’s something I need to discuss with the medical department and the player to see if there is a risk attached.”

Max Wright remains Grimsby Town’s only injured player, as he works his way back from a quad injury.

Sean Scannell and Joel Grant remain in firstteam training but Hurst doesn’t deem them fit enough to feature at the moment.

“He’s (Wright) working hard on the training pitch running,” Hurst explained.

“He’s in the gym, we’re trying to get him as fit as we can without being able to push him as much as we want to.

“He’s certainly not available and will still be a couple of weeks away.”

“That’s where we’re at with them, unfortunately,” Hurst added on Grant and Scannell.

“Maybe they think differently, I don’t know, I haven’t had that conversation with them.

“Watching them, they have been out a long time. We use a six-week period in pre-season, seven this year, to get the players fit. They both missed large parts of that.

“Although they have been training with us for a few weeks, it’s still not as demanding. They could perhaps come off a bench but it’s still a big ask to get up to the speed of the game.

“We’re trying to arrange a few games so they can get up to speed and get some game time. They need that for us to assess them other than on the training pitch.”
