CALM AFTER THE STORM...

BACK TO BUSINESS FOR MARINERS

GRIMSBY Town players will return to training today and begin preparing for their next match following the postponement of Saturday’s fixture.

Town’s home game against Boreham Wood was called off due to structural damage at Blundell Park caused by strong winds.

Storm Arwen battered the north overnight on Friday and throughout Saturday - and damage to the roof of one of the stands forced the decision.

The Mariners had been hoping to bounce back from their midweek 2-0 loss at Solihull Moors. They are next in action on Saturday, away at Dagenham.

While Town’s players had the weekend off, there was plenty of action in the National League and the picture at the top of the table tightened even further.

Halifax Town won to jump into third ahead of the Mariners - while the chasing pack including Notts County, Wrexham and Stockport all enjoyed wins.

On the decision to call off the match on Saturday, a club statement said: “The health and safety of our supporters is our number one priority.

“Unfortunately due to structural damage caused to a stand roof at Blundell Park, which has occurred late morning, after liaison with the Safety Advisory Group and taking into account continuing high winds, it is regretted, in the interest of safety for all due to enter onto the footprint of the stadium, the fixture has been postponed.

“Tickets for the original fixture will be valid for the rearranged date once confirmed or can be returned for a full refund from Monday. A new date for the fixture will be published once agreed.”
