Brilliant staff at great shop don’t deserve this

FOLLOWING our story about a West Marsh shop being targeted days after the owner witnessed a “stabbing” on the street, you had your say on our Facebook page.

- By Sally Clements

Dave Kaz Taylor: It isn’t safe anymore in Grimsby, back in my day we had a thing called respect. Joanne Frost: It’s not just a Grimsby thing sadly.

Claire Barley: The shop and Jey don’t deserve this sort of behaviour. He is the nicest person you could meet and all he wants to do is help someone. It’s disgusting behaviour from whoever has done this.

Tanni White: Could we all please cut the “back in my day/our generation used to have respect” etc to a minimum. I used to live in Grimsby in the early Nineties for years and it was abominable then.

I saw things and had things done to my property I only ever read about before. Every neighbour had been burgled at least once. Houses and businesses were vandalised.

My car had been “parked” in a shop window after it was stolen. My garden fence had been set on fire and a gang of ten-year olds terrorised the whole street. My dad picked one of them off the garden wall as he was trying to break into our shed and gave him a good skelping. Freeman Street was a no-go area and one fine afternoon I saw a guy being thrown into a shop window. There is no such thing as “the glory days”.

There is only a constant amount of decent people amidst all this - and for this we ought to be grateful. It’s thanks to all those good people the town hasn’t gone completely to pot.

Paul Briers: Most towns are like it now. I live in Castleford, Yorkshire, and there are two or three incidents every week. Where has the discipline and respect gone? Most of my generation know what they want.

Mark Appels: Great little shop this and the staff are brilliant. They definitely don’t deserve this x Chriss Maggimoomoo Newbegin: It just takes one bad neighbour or family then the town is classed as bad. Loads of places are bad in the UK.
