‘Some kids have no respect for anything’

Angela Garner: Graffiti is antisocial, it’s a small minority of mindless vandals ruining the place for the rest of the population, and it’s not just in Grimsby, it’s countrywide. There is a huge problem of kids who have no respect for anything or anybody and feel entitled to do what they like.

It just ruins places for the rest of the population. Yes, I know you get graffiti artists and some of them are pretty good, but the majority of people don’t want to live in a town covered in graffiti, be it artistic or otherwise.

Vilena Mary Champion: Why didn’t they paint it with vandalproof paint?

Ryan Swart: Well, welcome to Grimsby.

Denise Anneke Williams: What about trying to instil some responsibility programmes in schools and colleges and to have town pride? It’s real sad.

Ed North: Instead of leaving it blank, allow some artists to spray it and brighten it up instead of leaving some concrete that’s inevitably going to be vandalised.

There has to be an end to the stigma that graffiti is antisocial and embrace it as a form of art that can transform a wall into a tourist attraction.

David Palmer: If punishment was handed out to these delinquents then maybe there would be fewer occurrences of ASB such as this. The

courts and police must take the blame for this continuing behaviour. Neil Pendred: I’d be more fuming that someone paid £3.5 million for a £100k bridge.

Michail Okeefe: I’ve lived in Grimsby for four years now. But with most of the town’s shops shutting at 5.30pm there’s nothing for kids to do. Now if some shops stayed open longer, ie Freshney Place stayed open until later, it might help. There’s not enough after-school places for kids to meet up. What this area needs is somewhere they can go to stay out of trouble. I know there are a few places for kids to go, but they’re not diverse enough in what they do. But I do think we didn’t need a new bridge - that money could have been spent on other things

Wayne Hill: It’s the same all over Grimsby. No repect for anything nowadays.

Sandra Popham: It’s always the same. You can’t have anything in Grimsby.

Dave Dixon: I am still shocked it cost £3.5 million!

Lewis Maynard: Well what did they think was going to happen? White blank canvas in the middle of town. Get a grip, of course it was going to happen.

Gillian Arnold: Use CCTV to find out who did it and make them repaint it

Kathryn Keate: What did they expect with that big expanse of drawing space? Get some real artistry covering it and it won’t be so tempting to the bored scrotes with Sharpies.

John Flynn: You’re right, I am disgusted, £3.5 million for that bridge.

Teri Marie Parker: Ridiculous idea building that in the first place - you knew it wasn’t going to be kept nice.
