WINSBY Community Lottery has celebrated its first birthday with a bonus cash handout to a very special cause.

Since its launch, the Winsby Community Lottery has raised nearly £12,000 for the local community and as an extra bonus, one lucky organisation has received a £1,500 bonus with money collected as part of the general fund.

With 10p from every ticket bought put into a central pot, it was decided as part of the operating rules to award this in a random draw on the anniversary of the lottery to one of the causes signed up to the site.

And the winning ball pulled out of the draw was number 20, which was the number of the Sunflower Children’s Action Group.

This small, volunteer run local charity was formed in 2019 by children’s advocate Joanne Wright and creates special events and activities for youngsters who suffer from lifelimiting or life-threatening conditions.

Delighted to hear the news, Joanne said: “There are so many worthwhile local charities that are now part of Winsby and therefore we feel extremely lucky to have been pulled out of the anniversary draw.

“We are a small group, and this money will go a long way in providing very special treats for our children and their families.

“To see the smiles on the faces of the youngsters when we organise our events makes our work so worthwhile.

“I know they will all have those smiles on their faces again when this money allows us to provide more treats for them. Thank you,” she added.

Councillor Stan Shreeve, cabinet member for finance at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “So far nearly 30 local groups have signed up to the draw, and it’s an easy, and free way for them to raise funds for their valued services in the community.

“I’m delighted to be able to hand out this extra bonus prize to all at the Sunflower Children’s Action Group to use to support the worth they do.”

You can win weekly cash prizes up to the £25,000 jackpot for just £1 per ticket and if you enter before June 25 you will also be in with the chance of winning a £1,000 prize staycation with Forest Holidays.

“Unlike other lotteries, a huge 60p from every £1 ticket goes to local charities and good causes signed up to the site.

“You can choose which cause to support when you sign up.

Good causes not only benefit from receiving profits from ticket sales from their page, they also receive a host of marketing materials as well as their own Winsby Lottery web page.

Good causes can sign up for free at any time by visiting www.winsbylottery.co.uk to register.
