How the Mariners rated

-

OLLIE BATTERSBY: Battersby had very little to do in the first half but picked the ball out of his net three times after the break. He could do very little about the first two but will be disappointed to have been beaten by Hesketh’s strike, which he got a large hand to. 6

JORDAN CROPPER: Looked a good threat down the right in the first half. Was caught up the field as Hesketh fired in Eastleigh’s third, though I wouldn’t lay blame at his door for that. 6

JAMIE BRAMWELL: Looked very assured in the first half as he strode out of defence and hit some eye-catching passes. None of the goals were particularly his fault. 6

SHAUN PEARSON: Dominated the Eastleigh attackers in the first half. Tyrone Barnett gave him a much tougher challenge after the break. 6

ADAM CROOKES: Crookes has never refound his form from the early months of the season. The first two goals both came from the back post after Crookes had been dragged into the centre of the box. 5 JOEY JONES: Wanted the ball constantly in the first half but was caught dawdling in possession after half-time. In fairness, he wasn’t the only one but with Ben Fox breathing down his neck, it will be interesting to see who starts at Notts County. 5 GILES COKE: Kept things ticking over before being subbed at the break. 6 JORDAN MAGUIREDREW: Scored the opener and created a good chance for Burgess prior to that too. Drifts in and out of matches but shows good quality in big moments. 6 SCOTT BURGESS: Burgess had a very good half playing as the most advanced midfielder but struggled after half-time. He was robbed of possession for Eastleigh’s third goal and couldn’t get in the game after moving to the left-hand side of midfield. 6

MAX WRIGHT: Looked a threat in the final third when he ran at the Eastleigh defence. He didn’t really get much of a chance to do that after the break and drifted out of the game. 6 EMMANUEL DIESERUVWE: A hat-trick! Dieseruvwe netted from the spot before scoring two close-range poacher’s goals. They were the type of scrappy goals that the striker wanted more of when he arrived. 9

SUBSTITUTES: ARJAN RAIKHY (Coke, 45’): Couldn’t really get in the contest and struggled to impose his passing game on the frantic match. Great to see him back on the pitch after two and a half months out injured. 5

TRISTAN ABRAHAMS (Maguire-Drew, 63’): Was wasteful in the final third when he got opportunities. Shot from a very tight angle when he could have squared to Dieseruvwe and then headed wide in stoppage time when he should have hit the target 5
