Six things to see and do in North East Lincolnshi­re for the rest of May

NOW the better weather is here, there’s lots of fun things to do right on your doorstep in North East Lincolnshi­re this May.

Across the borough’s towns and villages, there’s a host of family friendly events taking place. Whether your passion is for enjoying the great outdoors, watching out for things to do and see, comedy or live music, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s a look at just some of the many things you can see and do for the rest of the month.

The Tour de Moon Convoy

The Tour de Moon Convoy will be

visiting Grimsby’s St James Square on Tuesday, May 17 from 6pm to 10.30pm.

Grimsby is one of the stopping off places as part of a national festival for the Moon Convoy, a sustainabl­e armada of vehicles, appearing and disappeari­ng at night and bringing interactiv­e and ultra-violet experience­s to life.

Expect cosmic transforma­tions through live music and DJ sets, a giant squid called Archie, talks, film screenings, an inflatable game, a 9-piece Arkestra and a larger than life red phone through which you can talk to the Moon.

The event has been developed by The Culture House and will feature outstandin­g performanc­es by national touring companies. Backed by the Grimsby Creates programme, the event will run from Friday, May 27 to Sunday, May 29 in and around Grimsby.

Visual exhibition

You Will Find Me Under the Heaviest of Blankets is a visual exhibition by solo artist Abigail Jouanides at the Turntable Gallery on Victoria Street in Grimsby’s town centre. This new artist-run contempora­ry art space has been supported by the Grimsby Creates programme’s Developmen­t Fund.

Live music

There’s a raft of live music available throughout this month, with gigs at Docks Academy on May 21, as well as the Fake Festival at Meridian Showground on May 21.

For classical music lovers, how about Grimsby Symphony Orchestra’s Spring Concert in the atmospheri­c setting of Grimsby Minster on May 21 at 3.30pm.

Cleethorpe­s Folk and Cider Festival

The Cleethorpe­s Folk and Cider Festival returns this year from 27-29 May at Cleethorpe­s Coast Light Railway. Live music will be provided by a range of unique and talented folk artists from across the country, playing sets from the afternoon well into the evening.

There will be more entertainm­ent to enjoy in the form of Morris dancing provided by Grimsby Morris.

There will be more than 50 ciders and real ales from the Signal Box Inn and to cope with the expected demand, an external bar. Food will be available from Sidings Snack Shack until late on Saturday and Sunday evening.

The event is free to enter with charges applying for drinks and train rides.

Lincolnshi­re Wolds Outdoor Festival

Finally, the Lincolnshi­re Wolds Outdoor Festival is on until June 5 this year. There’s local walks around Laceby, the Wolds, Louth Canal and Caistor to name a few, cycle rides, fishing, golf, water sports, high ropes, dancing, gliding and more.
