TRAVELODGE, COVENT GARDEN London

HOW MUCH: From £32, with SuperRooms approx £10 or £15 more, travelodge.co.uk WHERE: In the heart of the West End on Drury Lane, this is the perfect place to stay to explore the capital if you’re on a budget.

A fairly nondescript white building, it makes up for this with its fabulous location, a few minutes’ walk from Covent Garden. Explore the famous market and shop ‘til you drop in trendy boutiques.

I was in town to see the brilliant Killing Eve star Jodie Comer make her West End debut in one-woman play Prima Facie at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Known for her role as a trained assassin, she certainly gave a killer performance, earning a well-deserved standing ovation.

EXPERIENCE: I stayed in a SuperRoom double, which comes with a few notable extras to standard ones including a kingsize Dreamer bed in which I had a very comfortable sleep.

Decorated in a stylish blue and taupe with herringbone touches, big pluses were USB ports either side of the bed, a handy hair dryer next to a full length mirror, and an iron and ironing board. You get a larger desk and a swivel chair with these rooms and a Lavazza coffee pod machine.

Breakfast in the downstairs restaurant was great value, at just £9.95 and two children under 15 eat free with a paying adult. A good quality full English buffet was available as well as fruit, cereal, croissants and toast.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful, printing out a map of the local area to help us get our bearings.

VERDICT: Great location and worth paying that bit more for the extras with the SuperRoom. 9/10
