A HOST of events to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be held in northern Lincolnshire. A flotilla of ships will sail the River Humber, beacons will be lit and residents have applied for road closures to host street parties.

There will also be fireworks and dancing in the streets, along with large-scale parties, including at the People’s Park in Grimsby. We’ve put together a guide to the main events happening around the region.

The Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. The Queen’s Jubilee weekend is being celebrated around the UK between June 2-5, with two bank holidays on the Thursday and Friday.

Nationally, beacons will be lit around the country and in Commonwealth countries. There will be a huge Party at the Palace, featuring musical acts such as Queen and Diana Ross. On the Sunday, there will be a Jubilee Pageant through the streets of London.

Cleethorpes Jubilee events

■ A large crown beacon will be lit up on Cleethorpes Knoll on Thursday, June 2, at around 10pm. The Armed Forces Major Events Team has arranged for Alexandra Road to be closed from 4.30pm from

Yarra Road to The Knoll and the team has invited residents to bring a picnic and refreshments for a street party outside The Knoll.

Alex Baxter, the director, said the beacon would be lit on the roof of The Knoll at around 10pm, though the entertainments, including a five-piece band, will begin at 7pm. The National Anthem and other patriotic music will be performed.

“We would encourage people to come along and enjoy the evening in celebration of Her Majesty,” he said. Beacons will also be lit at Louth and Scunthorpe and on the South Bank of The Humber Bridge at around the same time.
