GRIMSBY Town fans were queuing in their masses yesterday morning as they got in line to try to get a ticket to see the Mariners play in the National League play-off semi-finals against Wrexham this Saturday.

Town made it through to the next round after two very late goals against Notts County on Monday, May 23. Now, fans are hoping they can carry on the winning streak and beat the Welsh team for a place in this year’s final which is to be played at the West Ham stadium on Sunday, June 5.

However, many were disappointed with only being allocated 1,200 tickets for the game, which made many extra keen to get in the queue yesterday morning to book their spot to the semi final. People both young and old were seen stood outside the stadium with some even bringing their own folding chair in case their legs got tired waiting.

Marinus Maasdam, said he was elated to be going to Wales with partner Christine Kirkham. He said: “I’m delighted to get the tickets, I’ve been to every home and away game this season and I genuinely think we’re going all the way this year. As soon as we got into the play-offs I had a feeling we would go all the way.”

Speaking to those who had just got their tickets, they said it was a great moment. Jason Sadler explained: “The takeover has changed the momentum of the club, it all feels very different this year. Monday night was probably one of the best games in recent memory and I’m really excited for Saturday now.”

He added: “I just hope we do it.” Another fan, Rick, has followed Grimsby Town since he was a young boy and says he is excited to see his beloved team play once again. He said: “I have fond memories of Grimsby and it’s great to see how well they’re doing now. I feel we’re on the verge of good times.”

Andy came to the queue quite late, but was still hopeful he could secure a ticket. He said: “I think I’ll manage to get one, I thought there would be more people here if I’m honest.”

He was also quite hopeful with the prospect of town being promoted. He said: “I wouldn’t want to be Wrexham right now, it’s going to be one hell of a game that’s for sure. It all just seems to have come together this season thankfully.”
