STARS HAVE THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES IN CANNES

-

Before I start, I make no apology for writing about the Cannes Film Festival again.

Have you looked out of the window lately? It’s been more like October than almost June, this week. Can you blame me for focussing my attention somewhere sunnier?

Anyway, since we last spoke a whole new bunch of actors, models and movie makers have graced the red carpets in the south of France.

But it is not the ingenues or influencers, with their staged photo ops, that have piqued my interest. No it is a trio of women who have already taken a good few turns around the Cannes croisette I want to talk about.

Maybe it’s because I am hurtling towards my mid-forties and feel like every opportunity to get dressed up is now a ‘mutton-risk’ minefield, but my heart swelled to see women who fall into an age bracket, for so long considered as ‘past it’ by Hollywood’s standards, stealing the show.

Case in point Sharon Stone, 64. I’ve been girl crushing on Shazza ever since her Basic Instinct breakthrough and to this day find her an inspiration.

Dressed each time by Dolce & Gabbana, she attended a string of events, starting with the Forever Young premiere – how apt – where she whipped off the full skirt of her blue and white gown transforming it to a slinkier design.

At the Crimes Of The Future screening she was in a green bandeau leopard print number, while it was sexy scarlet chainmail for the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis epic.

I was still swooning over

Sharon when I happened upon a collection of images of Isabelle Huppert.

Isabelle, 69, is a real poster girl for wearing whatever you want and to hell with the critics – she’s French after all. At the Forever Young premiere she was a green goddess head to toe in Balenciaga spandex.

If the ensemble feels familiar, it’s because 41-year-old Kim Kardashian has worn little else for the last six months, but we are all too evolved to get into a ‘who wore it better’ debate.

And then a new woman came into my life.

Step forward Maye Musk. This month, 74-year-old Maye made history as the oldest woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s famous swimsuit issue.

The veteran model and mother of a certain Teslaowning billionaire was also at the Elvis premiere, looking the epitome of elegance in a flowing silver gown.

Mutton-dressed-as-lamb? You Musk be kidding!

■ Just when I thought we were done with courtroom chic appraisals after the Wagatha Christie saga, a certain supermodel put the focus back on it this week.

Kate Moss only appeared for a matter of minutes – via video link – in the Johnny Depp/ Amber Heard defamation trial but she had the eyes of the world on her for every one of them.

Mossy was called to testify after Amber alleged Johnny pushed Kate down stairs in Jamaica, when they were a couple in the Nineties, a claim Kate completely

and utterly quashed in her testimony.

The famously private runway queen told the court she simply slipped on wet steps and in fact Johnny came to her aid.

Wearing a pussybow blouse and a £3,000 YSL blazer, Kate, 48, looked smart and serious. She’d even tamed her bedhead tresses for the appearance.

Talk about a model

witness.
