‘First increase in ten years isn’t bad at all’

Visitors to our Facebook page have had their say on our story about unhappy resort traders on rising car parking charges:

-

■ Dan Wade: This isn’t a sudden surprise as signs have been up since April that charges would be increasing. It’s not great that is is going up so much, but if they have not been increased for a number of years then maybe the income isn’t covering the expenditure the council spends on them.

■ Amanda Aston: Definitely need a park and ride. I’ve been saying this for years. I think £7 to park all day is still cheap compared to a lot of other places.

■ Christine Din: Parking is free in some towns and £7 is a lot for struggling families. When we were children it was free and when they started charging we used to drive streets away to find a free parking, they have made that a lot harder too.

■ Brian Maguire: Too much messing to pay. Some of us oldies don’t have apps (whatever they are), and having to ring up to pay is pathetic. I’m not going again.

■ Paul Wheatley: It’ll encourage people to leave their cars where they’re staying and walk, cycle or use public transport. The biggest problem will be those parking on the roads nearby. The council will need to impose stricter parking restrictions.

■ Tony Jee: £7 to park all day and first increase in 10 years isn’t bad at all. ■ Steve Davidson: Great idea, increase charges when the cost of living is sky-rocketing

■ Justin Mundford: Any day trippers will just pay no questions asked it will be full as usual, locals in off season is another matter.

■ Lynn Morgan: People will just park off the seafront etc in people’s street which are now rammed feel sorry for residents of the area.

■ Caron Moore: All another way of taking the working man’s money

■ I can understand a contribution for maintenance but come on how often is that, this is another tax.

■ Ian Mcclean: Most people forget that councils now run as Businesses. And we all know that many big businesses jump on the bandwagon when there’s money to be made especially during a crises.

■ Kevin Grantham: Apparently the money collected can only legally be wasted on sprucing-up the car parks or creating new ones or installing new cameras to catch you out and new ticket machines Locals have to pay, visitors can always stay away. Collection is greed not need.

■ Liz James: I park on Grant Street Carpark and a 50p increase to £3.50, will not stop my Day trips to Cleethorpes, as well worth a visit and so enjoy.
