How Mariners rated

-

MAX CROCOMBE: Pulled off a fantastic one-handed save to deny Andrew Dallas. Dominated his area coming for crosses and could do very little about Hudlin’s opener. His form in the play-offs has been fantastic. 8

JORDAN CROPPER: Could have been awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge from Harry Boyes. Long throws caused their usual mischief. 6

LUKE WATERFALL: Cleared everything and won every aerial duel. He dealt with Hudlin excellently for the most part. A man mountain. 8

ANDY SMITH: Looked a little bit flustered, at times, with a few rash moments, but did excellently to win back possession in the build-up for the equaliser. A great learning experience for someone who has never let the team down. 6

DANNY AMOS: Handled the very dangerous Ryan Barnett pretty well. He produced a few lovely-timed tackles to win back possession. Hopefully, not the last time we see him in a Town shirt. 7

GAVAN HOLOHAN: Controlled the midfield area alongside Ben Fox. Wasn’t overly involved in the match but still provided a calming presence when in possession. 7

BEN FOX: He continued his rich vein of form in the centre of the park. They say that 80 per cent of the world is covered in water, the rest is Fox. Another brilliant display. 8

ERICO SOUSA: Looked a threat down the right side and produced some of Town’s best chances in the first half. He’s been much-improved since the final weeks of the regular campaign. 7

JOHN MCATEE: The man of the moment. Grimsby Town’s Player of the Year produced in the biggest of moments. A stage fit for the big players. An ice-cool finish to bring the Mariners level after springing the offside trap. 8

HARRY CLIFTON: Hard-working down the left side. He missed the big chance of the first half as he met Sousa’s back-post cross but couldn’t keep the ball down. He almost grabbed the equaliser too but his clever back flick went just wide. 6

RYAN TAYLOR: The usual clever flicks and good link-up play. Didn’t get many decisions in his favour despite being pushed and pulled throughout. 6

SUBSTITUTES:

JORDAN MAGUIRE-DREW (SOUSA, 65’): Made an instant impact with a lovely dummy which put McAtee through for the equaliser. Put the ball on a plate with a cross that McAtee turned just wide. Then showed fantastic anticipation to find the winner. 7

EMMANUEL DIESERUVWE (TAYLOR, 81’): Couldn’t quite get hold of possession to make the same impact as he did in the previous two games. 6

ARJAN RAIKHY (MCATEE, 90’): Initially the most advanced of the midfielders before moving deeper later into extra time. 6

TRISTAN ABRAHAMS (GAVAN HOLOHAN, 111’) N/A
