Maguire-Drew had great excuse for missing Grimsby’s promotion parade

GRIMSBY Town’s play-off final hero Jordan Maguire-Drew capped off a great weekend on a personal note, announcing his engagement to his girlfriend, Chloe Elise Bradford, on social media.
The announcement came on Tuesday evening, at the same time MaguireDrew’s Town teammates were soaking up the celebrations from the fans on an open bus tour of the streets of Grimsby.
The bus parade was followed by a civic reception at the Town Hall. Maguire-Drew was unable to attend, with the 24-year-old and his partner flying out to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for the eventual proposal. The attacking midfielder apologised to his team mates for missing the celebrations on Tuesday, making light of the situation on Twitter.
Maguire-Drew’s tweet, accompanied by a photo of him proposing to Elise Bradford, read: “Gutted I missed out on today’s parade @officialgtfc but I was a little bit busy…”. The club’s official account then replied, saying: “I’m sure we will let you off… Congratulations to @jmaguiredrew on his engagement!!”
Maguire-Drew signed for Grimsby on an 18-month deal at the end of November last year and played a crucial role coming off the bench in the play-offs. More so in the final, where he played a part in both of Grimsby’s goals, setting up John McAtee for the first and then popping up with the extra-time winner.
Despite this, manager Paul Hurst revealed after the final win that he and the former Brighton and Hove Albion player had discussions about his playing time prior to the game after Maguire-Drew came to Hurst to enquire about his lack of starts.
That aside, engagement with his partner just days after the final heroics will make this a week to remember for a player that could be an essential player for The Mariners next season upon their return to the Football League.
