A 4X4 Land rover has been seized after it became stuck in the mud whilst driving on a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Cleethorpes.

The car was spotted by passers by along the beaches of the seaside resort near to the Meridian Point cafe where it became stuck in the mud. Those who witnessed the event said the car had ropes and planks of wood underneath it to try and help it get out of the sticky situation.

It is unclear how long the vehicle was stuck in the mud for, but it was eventually removed and will now be seized by Humberside Police for driving on a restricted area. In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “Officers were alerted to a vehicle that had become stuck on land off

Meridian Road, Cleethorpes, at around 5.20pm on Monday, June 6.

“We worked with our partners to try to recover the vehicle, which will now be seized by police for driving onto a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).” However, many people were less than happy about the incident with some criticising the incident.

Many remarked at the driver being an ‘idiot’ with others complaining about them driving over the protected site. Elaine Jones said: “I hope it gets crushed. This is a SSSI site, there are birds nesting, lots of other wildlife and lots of special wild Flora.

“They were been totally reckless and thoughtless by all accounts, racing around disturbing the environment and walkers.” Others wanted a harsh punishment for the driver saying: “Fine the owners or drivers, seize the car and crush it.”
