‘We don’t need cinema’ in the centre of town
FOLLOWING our story about the council’s multi-million pound plan to buy Grimsby’s Freshney Place shopping centre, you had your say on our Facebook page.
Mandy Louise: Rather than providing more of what we already have, wouldn’t it be better to look at different things to do in the area?
Samuel Spaam Wilkinson: It must be the announcement of those two exciting “new” stores moving in. Attracting the serious buyers now.
Dave White: Council should be spending more money on making sure children are safe rather than buying property with our money.
Jemima LouMax: So yet another money pit. This sort of expenditure should be voted for by local residents. A council in the dark ages - cinema and a shopping centre - it’s not really forward thinking!
Brian Cook: Turn it into Grimsby Town’s new stadium.
Brenda Wood: British Home Stores back, restaurant upstairs, TK Max downstairs, restaurant upstairs, like it use to be with nice shops. Drop the charges for rent so they can have a chance.
Louis Meller: Council being the Blockbuster of the modern world. No vision, hanging on to a fully packed high street dream. We simply don’t need something of this size for the town anymore.
Val Walker: Love Freshney Place. Great shopping centre and such a shame to let it go to waste.
Daniel Lewis: It needs knocking down and well designed, attractive terraced housing built, with ample green space ... like what used to be there.
Pete Parker: It’s not just Grimsby. Every town has its story, but physical retail is changing and not in a good way. Change is needed at a governmental level.
Diane Thomas: Just been to an outlet shopping complex between Boston and Spalding, a gorgeous place full of people shopping in shops not on the internet. We don’t need a cinema.
Rocco Fells: A cinema won’t help bring a shopping complex back.
