Humberside Fire Chief commends 13-year-old’s ‘heroic actions’ during house fire

A TEENAGE schoolboy from f Grimsby has been presented with w a Certificat­e of Commendati­on f from Humberside Fire and Rescue following his “heroic acti actions” during a fire on Winche Winchester Avenue.

Christian Clark, 13, ran ra to the fire teams’ aid and helped direct them to the blaze.

Soon after, flames were found foun in Christian’s neighbours’ ho house alongside a woman suffering f from smoke inhalation, asthma, and shock in the front garden. Thanks Thank to the efforts from paramedics, she has since made a full recovery.

Chief Fire Officer Chris Blacksell praised Christian for his ‘exemplary actions’ during the event. “He is a shining example of how our young people can make such a difference when they really put their mind to something,” he said.

Christian later told the Grimsby Telegraph: “I was pretty nervous to receive the award and quite shocked after finding out that not many people get it.” After being presented with the certificat­e, he was treated to a tour of the fire station and even got to go up the ladder on one of the fire engines.

“I just wanted to say, thank you to the fire team for having me and letting me take a look round,” Christian added. A well-developed tumble dryer fire is said to be what caused the incident and could have possibly spread to the rest of the house and adjoining properties if not properly contained.
