Brocklesby are no match for Harry’s Exiles

-

THE final game in the first round of this year’s Grimsby Town Cricket Club Knockout saw two new sides competing.

In a one-sided match, Harry’s Exiles beat Brocklesby Park by 98 runs and also posted the highest total in the competition so far.

Harry Warwick, the captain of the Exiles, was top scorer for his side as he made 33 runs from only 19 balls.

He opened the innings with Harry Clewett (24) and these two gave their side a very positive start as the Exiles ended the “powerplay” on 93 for 3 from six overs.

Connor Harvey made 28 from 12 balls and with solid contributions from Alex Page and Charlie Sykes and an undefeated 29 from Ian Mansfield, the Exiles finished on 203 for 7 from their 16 overs.

The only Brocklesby bowler who could stem the flow of runs was left arm spinner Nauman Abid, who bowled impressively as he took 3 for 21 from four overs.

He was assisted by wicket keeper Yamin Butt who caught Harry Warwick and had James Glynn stumped.

Faced with such a huge total, Brocklesby Park needed a strong “powerplay” but after six overs, they were very much on the back foot, as they found themselves 52 for 5.

Opening batsman Indy Hayre made 27 from 18 balls but was the fourth wicket to fall when James Glynn had him caught behind by Mansfield.

Glynn, one of seven players from Townville Cricket Club in Harry’s Exiles, opened the bowling and took 4 for 30 from his four overs, deservedly winning the Man of the Match Award.

Aziz offered some middle order resistance for Brocklesby Park as he smashed four big sixes, making 37 from 21 balls.

He was eventually bowled by Clewett, who like fellow spinner Alfie Warwick claimed two wickets.

Brocklesby Park were all out for 105 in the 13th over.

Tonight sees the first of this year’s semi-finals as Louth play Cleethorpes. Spectators are welcome, at Augusta Street (6.15pm start).
