Armed police called to resort street after ‘gunshots’ heard
FORCE ‘EXPLORING A NUMBER OF AVENUES OF INVESTIGATION’
ARMED police were called to a Cleethorpes street following reports of the sound of gunshots.
After a member of the public alerted police to the sounds heard between 8.30pm and 9pm on Monday night, armed response officers were deployed to Barcroft Street, where they carried out a thorough search of the area and door-to-door enquiries.
Police say they are exploring a “number of avenues of investigation” to understand exactly what happened, but confirmed that they believe it to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other. Nobody is thought to have sustained any injuries.
Leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Nicola Burnett said: “Whilst incidents of this nature thankfully remain rare in our area, I understand the concern and shock this will have caused to the local community.
“We are exploring a number of avenues of investigation to understand exactly what has happened and I can confirm at this time, nobody is thought to have sustained any injuries.
“We are in the very early stages of our investigation; however, I would like to reassure communities that we believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other. Locals to the area can expect to see a police presence over the coming days while officers carry out further enquiries and speak to members in the community.
