NEARLY all parents who applied for a primary school place got their first choice of school, according to North East Lincolnshire Council.

A total of 99 per cent got their toppreferred school in the allocation of school places announced on Tuesday.

The announcement affects nearly 1,400 children and their parents or carers seeking school places at infants or primary schools in North East Lincolnshire. The National Offer Day for senior schools was on March 1 for pupils starting Year 7 in September.

A total of 1,398 applications were received for children living in North East Lincolnshire by the published closing date. Of those, 99.36 per cent were offered their first preference school and 0.5 per cent were offered their second preference.

Just over 0.1 per cent of applicants were not offered any of their preferred schools and were allocated a place at their catchment or next nearest school with availability, in line with published arrangements. Any late applications or changes to previously submitted preferences will be considered at a second round

of allocation in May 2024. Parents and carers that applied through the dedicated online admissions Citizen Portal were notified by email. Anyone that applied otherwise, either online or on a paper form, have been notified by post. A spokesperson for North East

Lincolnshire Council said: “The allocation of school places can be a complex task. Whilst it is very pleasing that the vast majority of pupils have been allocated their first preference, there will be some who are perhaps unhappy with their allocation. Any parent carer who has not received their preferred school will receive information on how they can appeal the decision.”

The council’s School Admissions Team is available to offer impartial advice to parents and carers. Information about the application process is available on the council’s website at: Apply for a school place | NELC (nelincs.gov.uk)

For further information, parents can contact the team by email at schooladmissions@nelincs.gov.uk or by telephone on 01472 326291 (option 4).
