Five food outlets up for licence review as men face criminal charges
REVIEWS ALL LINKED TO AN ALLEGED ‘ALTERCATION’ IN RESORT LAST MONTH
FIVE popular food outlets in Cleethorpes, including the Turkish restaurant at a former charity store in St Peter’s Avenue, could have their licences stripped following an alleged “altercation” in the resort. Licence reviews are set to take place for the restaurants and takeaways on the grounds of “prevention of crime and disorder, and public safety”.
It comes as two men face criminal charges including affray and possession of an offensive weapon following an incident at Isaac’s Hill last month.
The affected takeaways are Kebab House and Chicken House, in Market Place, and Pepi’s and Chicago Burger, in High Street, along with Beyoglu Turkish Restaurant, in St Peter’s Avenue.
All reviews have been requested by Humberside Police and all are linked to the alleged altercation in Cleethorpes on Sunday, March 10. It happened at Isaac’s Hill, near Clee Road, at around 10pm with a collision involving two vehicles also reported during the incident. A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Two men were charged following reports of an altercation on Isaac’s Hill in Cleethorpes at around 10.05pm on Sunday 10 March.
“Ihsan Sabri Asiroglu, 46, of Cross Street, Cleethorpes, was charged with affray and possessing an offensive weapon p in public. p Shivan
Mustafa, 44, of Drew Avenue, Cleethorpes, was charged with affray, possessing an offensive weapon in public and dangerous driving.”
Both men appeared at Grimsby Crown Court on April 12, and are due to appear again there on May 29, the Courts and Tribunals Service Centre has confirmed.
Grimsby Live requested a copy of the licence review applications from North East Lincolnshire Council.
A copy, the same for all five venues, was provided which confirmed the reviews relate to the ongoing court proceedings.
“The Chief Constable respectfully submits that the premises and person(s) linked to the premises, are involved in serious acts of violence with the use of an offensive weapon,” part of the application states.
It adds: “The police reserve the right to submit further evidence and ask that these matters be heard in camera, as both defendants are still to be dealt with at Grimsby Crown Court.”
