We should make more of the existing ice rink

Duncan Preston: It’s really funny how the rink has survived decades with no major investment whilst other projects have been funded. Celebrate Grimsby Ice Rink, it owes absolutely nothing and has brought so much pleasure to many.

Sue Phillips: Hopefully they’ll learn how to measure this time. The one at present is too short for any teams to play in any league. You could have a great team in a few years.

For league ice hockey you need to travel to Hull, Sheffield or Leeds at the moment.

If it takes as long as Hull’s new one, come back in about 15 years. Hull still hasn’t got a new one. C-jay Jenner: Save Freshney Place shopping centre with it and give us some shops back! There’s more pressing matters in this town than a new ice rink.

Leah Cole: Wow! New cinema, new

ice rink ... Grimsby really is gonna be the place of dreams.

Elaine Hodgson: Build it in the old Pleasure Island site and maybe incorporate a skate park/BMX track/ski slope indoors for extra things to do indoors during winter at Cleethorpes.

Bel Tomkins: While what we actually need is investment in industry… decent well paid jobs so the people can afford to go ice skating. Private investment will come naturally when the people have money to spend.

Sand Stewart: I’d just upgrade this rink to be honest. The reason skaters from other areas use it is because it’s not very busy at certain days/times so they can get time on the ice.

It’s a lovely space and we should make more of it rather than build a new one.

Liz Lilliman: Be nice if we could get disabled ice skating and ice hockey back. Miss my Wednesday morning ice skate.

Francoise Hammond: I have been a figure skater since the 1980s. It brought me great joy and new friends, competing against lots of other rinks. It was good for my physical and mental well-being. After many years, my daughter started back ice skating again, enjoying this sport and taking part in the Synchro team, travelling all over and making lovely friends. The coach teaching her was a person who I figure skated with as a young person. This rink is valued and brings lots of skills, fitness and friends. Please value Grimsby Ice Rink. Jo Joanne Routhhas managed this rink for the last few years and done an amazing job with nil profit. It means everything.

Linda Bennett: What a waste of money. No one will be able to afford the entrance fee, could be put to better use.

Justin Hanson: Could put it behind Freeman Street Market, where the high-rises used to be. John Obrien: They want to sort town out, give us some shops back.
