Aspin hails his table-topping Shaymen

-

Neil Aspin hailed his “fantastic” FC Halifax Town side after their 3-2 win over Lincoln at the Shay kept them top of the Conference Premier.

Town made it five wins out of five so far this season after an engrossing contest that featured two penalties and a red card.

Aspin still wants to see more from his team but was delighted they recorded five wins on the bounce for the second time since they were promoted to the division.

He said: “They’ve got over the line but we will need to be better if we want to keep winning games, there’s no question about that.

“We’ll need to have more energy levels than we did in the second-half.

“But I’m not going to say I’ve got any sort of disappointment because for our players to win five games in a row at this level is absolutely fantastic.”

Aspin admitted the afternoon’s events had been tiring to watch and play in.

He said: “It was certainly a game that had everything. It wasn’t easy watching from the sidelines.

“It was totally different to Saturday’s game at Chester, it was a difficult game.

“It’s difficult to play two games in such a short space of time so I’d give the players credit and certainly secondhalf it took a lot out of them.”

The Town boss said Lincoln showed plenty of spirit to stay in the game right until the end, despite Hamza Bencherif’s sending-off for two bookable offences.

He said: “I thought we dominated the first-half, I was pleased with the way we were playing.

“Obviously we were unfortunate with the goal but we were well on top.

“The chance to go 3-1 up was a turning-point, it might have made it a different game.

“But Lincoln, with 10 men, they passed it well. You wouldn’t have thought they were a man short because they were pushing us back.”
