Elland a tough nut to crack in trophy event

- BY IAN RUSHWORTH

Elland proved deceptively difficult in the early summer sunshine at Tuesday’s penultimate Halifax-Huddersfield Alliance meeting of the season.

Only one pair out of 47 bettered 40 stableford points over two laps of the nine-hole parkland course, which was staging an Alliance for the first time in around five years.

Crosland Heath have been dominant this winter and the pattern continued with success for Richard Lambert and 10 handicapper Paul Land.

Their 42-point haul gave them the Ronnie Parkinson Trophy, which remembers a former Alliance secretary from the Ryburn club.

They scored consistently well throughout with just the one blemish, on the 407-yard 14th, when both took five.

Crosland Heath have won the club championship with 416 points from Meltham on 403, Outlane on 400 and Bradley Hall on 395.

The Order of Merit for club professionals will be decided at the Page Trophy individual event on Tuesday, May 5.

Lambert will fancy his chances because the 36-hole event, which also has an 18-hole option for the Roger Heap Memorial Trophy, is at Crosland Heath and he now leads the standings with 42 points. Tom Wild has 41 points and West End’s Darren Arber has 36 points. Scores - Pro-am:
