Northowram Methodist Church are looking for a new leader for their craft club. The club runs from September to early June each year during school term time on a Monday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm. It caters for local children aged from eight to eleven years old and offers a range of crafts and cookery activities. The present leader of the club, Sheena Rush is retiring next May and the church are looking for a crafty person to start working alongside her, before she retires, to enable a smooth handover. This is a voluntary position and is subject to a DBA check in line with Church Safeguardi­ng Policy. For anyone who would like further details please contact Sheena on 01422 201748. Heywood UR Church invite people to their monthly drop in, held on the first Thursday of the month. The next drop in will be on Thursday, July 4, with morning coffee at 10.30am and a warm lunch at 12.30pm. A new art class is being held on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 3.30pm at the Hub, Northowram Library. All materials are provided. The cost of the class is £4. Chris welcomed 24 children, their parents, grandparen­ts, and friends to the latest Tuesday morning session of toddler church held at St Matthew’s Church. Chris spoke about the animals in God’s wonderful world. She compared the different animals and spoke about their different features. She talked about the long neck of the giraffe and the curled up snake. After singing old MacDonald had a farm, who made the twinkling stars and down in the jungle”, the children had to match a descriptio­n, read by a grown up to a picture. Toddler church is held every Tuesday morning at 9.30am at St Matthew’s Church. St Matthew’s Church are inviting people to come along to their Friday morning coffee mornings from 10am to noon. A new feature of the coffee mornings are that people are encouraged to bring their knitting or their craft work with them. Anyone who would like to learn how to crochet or knit, craft expert Pauline will be happy to teach people this new skill. Starting on the first Friday of the month there will be a short midday communion service. This will follow the regular coffee morning.

Val Green presided at the Ripponden with Rishworth WI. There were three apologies from absent members. The speaker Avis Gilmore who spoke about equality for women, outlining the history of the movement from ancient times to the present day. Val Green thanked her, and she was presented with a cake made by Gwen Beaumont. Supper was provided by Judith Rowley and Mrs Beaumont. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21 at the community centre. Leo McDermott will speak on the art of spinning wool. Visitors are welcome.
