Robert steps in after sibling’s unlucky break

-

Robert said his brother’s injury was a blow to Booth and the league side.

“He tried to cut a ball from Jake Dixon which popped and got hit on the bone which sticks out of your wrist.”

To add insult to the injury, Richard was caught off the delivery.

It is a second untimely blow for Richard who famously missed the second half of the Parish Cup final against Jer Lane at Blackley a couple of years ago with a broken thumb. The match was extended to a second Sunday by poor weather.

A couple more players who were due to face York at Osbaldwick when the Yorkshire Inter-League Knockout Cup game was washed out almost a fortnight ago are now unavailable.

They are Copley’s Chris Dennison and SBCI’s Jamie Sykes.

The players coming into the team are Thornton spinner Greg Soames, his clubmate Josh Hutchinson and Triangle’s Chris Silkstone. The latter pair made huge scores in the Parish Cup last Sunday.

Following the modern trend for select teams, the Halifax line- up is stacked with batting and lighter on the bowling front.

Lane’s Pinfield said: “It looks a strong team.

“The batting order will be horrid to pick but the bowling will be a bit more difficult.”

Pinfield knows Halifax will have to play well to progress.

“It will be like a final because York are the best team in it. If we can get past them we should be okay in the semi-finals and final.

“York are a good team and it is a big ground so we needed a spinner.

The players will be travel- ling by coach, which leaves the Shay at 11.30. Halifax League: Rob Laycock (Booth), Josh Hutchinson, Greg Soames and Ross Soames (all Thornton), Tom Earle, Jack Earle and Steve Senior (all Mytholmroyd), Ian Hall (Southowram), Sam Mellor (Sowerby Bridge), Reece Jennison (Blackley), Christian Silkstone (Triangle).
