Chapel are thrilled to be in semis draw

-

“The players are very excited and keen to see what they can do against one of the league’s top sides,” said Chapel spokesman Paul Ravenscroft.

“It is absolutely fantastic for the club. It is the first time we have been in the semi-finals - I don’t think we have been anywhere near before.”

Chapel had a busy close season, vacating Bradford Park Avenue and linking up with former Bradford League club Great Horton.

“It has been a great move for us,” said Ravenscroft. “We also have a team in the Dales Council and we could have put out four teams last Saturday.”

Ravenscroft was among those to witness the new setup’s biggest success so far last Sunday.

The visitors looked to have plenty on their plates when Sowerby piled up 268 after being 134 for five.

Ben Hoyle (49), his brother Matthew (48) and Lyndon Baxter jnr (51) scored well down the order to leave the visitors with a mountain to climb.

Robert Gamble made a swift 34 at the top of the Chapel order and Richard Hassall (57) and Adam Beesley (75) - who had scored a century the previously day - helped Chapel to 188 for two.

The visitors needed around 70 runs off the last eight overs but were up to the task with all-rounder Matthew Jordan (38 no) to the fore.

Jordan had only been able to bowl seven overs earlier after pulling a hamstring and faced the final delivery, with the scores level, using Gamble as a runner.

Gamble and Husnain Syed comfortable managed to cross for the winning single and snatch a memorable victory for their side.
