Residential scheme wins national award
A residential development in Mytholmroyd has scooped a major national building award. High Lock, a restored former cotton mill on Burnley Road, was awarded the title of ‘Best Small New Housing Development’ at the Grand Final of the LABC Building Excellence Awards held in London.
The scheme, developed by Skipton based Candelisa, provides ten, three-bedroom waterside homes with a private courtyard, designed to respect the existing materials and character of the original cotton mill, all of which have now sold.
The Environment Agency was involved with the creation of the layout, due to the potential flood risk.
LABC chief executive Paul Everall said: ‘The location and its attendant flood risk required a bespoke design solution that has been achieved very successfully.
“The internal layout of the dwellings also takes advantage of the opportunities to provide views and light for the residents.
“There was also a good and professional relation- ship with building control and all parties agreed that the development has positively enhanced the area.”
Candelisa specialises in the regeneration of existing buildings and the conversion of historic buildings across the North of England.
Its varied portfolio also includes residential, retail developments and investment projects.
Guy Taylor, managing director of Candelisa, was delighted. He said: ‘It is fantastic to have beaten off high quality competition from across the country and bring this prestigious award back to Yorkshire.
“As a company our philosophy is about providing exceptional spaces in exceptional places through the imaginative regeneration of existing buildings.
“This award is a fitting acknowledgement of our success in doing this.”
