Pacesetters do battle at Luddenden Foot

-

Calder ‘76 host Mixenden United in a meeting of the top two sides in the HaslemSheppard Halifax AFL at Luddenden Foot tomorrow. Andy Greenwood’s Mixenden have impressed back in the top flight with just one defeat in their seven outings.

Damian Randell is a constant threat and he and Chris Woodhouse form a deadly strike force.

Leaders Calder have six wins from seven outings and boss Rob Kenworthy will hope home advantage tips the scales their way.

Third placed Shelf United take on fourth placed Midgley United in another big clash.

Shelf, undefeated in three, will hope Billy Grogan and Oliver Coates can provide the spark needed to beat a Midgley side hit for the second successive season by injuries.

Safety is now the target for Copley United and Northowram, who meet at Copley’s new home, Shroggs Park

With leaders Brighouse Sports on cup duty, Sowerby United can go top of Division One. Garry Boyd’s men make the short trip to face a Ryburn United Reserves side containing a sprinkling of their former players.

Elland Allstars are unbeaten in their last three league outings and will travel to Sowerby Bridge in confi- dent mood following a derby win against Elland United.

AFC Crossleys put in a fine display at Sowerby United last week and a similar show should bring them the points against Calder 76 Reserves.

Halifax Irish Centre take on Salem in a meeting of sides fighting for survival. Craig Eastwood has a good strike rate for Irish whilst Salem will hope Scott Fieldhouse can grab a goal or two for them.

Chris Stansfield’s runaway Division Two leaders St Columbas travel to undefeated Shelf FC.

Two in-form sides meet when Northowram Reserves host second placed Greetland Reserves, who have won their last five and may have the edge.

Successive defeats has dented Illingworth St Marys Reserves’ title challenge. They bid to get back to winning ways at Salem Reserves.

In the quarter finals of the Skircoat Green Physiotherapy Challenge Cup, first division Illingworth St Mary’s will hope to add the scalp of top flight Warley Rangers to that of Greetland in last week’s Halifax FA Cup.

Another game between first and premier sides is at Denholme United where Ryburn United are the visitors. Ryburn will start favourites.

Greetland face Hebden Royd Red Star. Reaching the semis could turn one side’s season around. Brighouse Sports could make the trip to Elland United worthwhile. Sowerby United have only dropped two points in Division One but were made to work hard for a 2-1 win over AFC Crossleys.

A fine pass from James Clegg enabled Harvey Walsh to fire Sowerby ahead.

David Mlodeski levelled and lifted Crossleys but the decisive goal went to Sowerby with 10 minutes left through Oliver Smith’s superb strike from 25 yards.

Connor Bell struck twice as Elland Allstars had a 3-1 win over derby rivals Elland United, who had humbled them 5-1 in the cup recently.

The clash between the second teams from neighbours Midgley United and Calder ‘76 finished 2-2.

Midgley looked set to leapfrog their rivals in the table when George Bamford and ex-Sowerby Bridge player Michael Rigby gave them a 2-0 lead. However, John Moynes halved the deficit before the interval and Nathan Demspey equalised.
