Clayhouse seal winter title by 6 point margin
After some poor weather throughout the winter, Clayhouse were crowned Halifax BC’s outdoor winter champions on a sunny afternoon. Hedley Kettlewell, Andy Tate, Mick Skwarek and Andy Peel beat Firey Jacks (John Ingham, Philip Holroyd, Mick Walker, Ian Hodges)18-13 in their final Division One match.
The sides had two winners each. Kettlewell beat Ingham 21-9 and Peel defeated Hodges 21-13 while Tate and Skwarek each scored 20 against Holroyd and Walker respectively.
Clayhouse’s big rivals Silsden PF ( Keith Hatzer, Ken Brenkley, John Metcalfe, Alan Hughes) played relegated Pellon (David Gowing, Paul Firth, David Agnew, Richard Lee) .
Agnew was in sparkling form, beating Metcalfe 21-14, but Silsden won 17-8 to finish six points behind Clayhouse.
Division Two champions Kingston ( Stewart Sykes, Christine Midgley, David Wood, John Worsnop) lost 1710 to Sowerby (Ian Hartley, Lesley Ellison, Glenda Hartley, Peter Lomax).
It was Sowerby’s best result of the season as Ian Hartley beat Sykes 21-8, Ian’s mother Glenda defeated Wood 21-13 and Lomax beat Worsnop.
The other promoted side are Blue Sox (Peter Gregory, Pat Grant, Rod Greenwood, Neil Dickie), who signed off with a 20-9 win against Lindley All Stars (D. Dutton, J.B White, J. Taylor, J.W. White).
