“We’ve got to find a way to beat teams,” says frustrated Wild

FC HALIFAX Town boss Pete Wild says his team must find a way to beat sides who sit behind the ball after a frustrating 2-0 home defeat to Boreham Wood.

The Shaymen lost thanks to a goal in each half by Tom Champion and Adam McDonnell but remain top of the National League.

“Boreham Wood executed their plan very well,” said Wild.

“They hit us with two setpieces,

‘That’s three games at home without a goal, and that’s not us. So I’ve got to find a way to sort that.’

fair play to them.

“It’s another game we’ve completely dominated, but another game where the team we’re playing against has really sat in.

“I thought we had a lot of the ball, but showed little composure to execute a goal when we got in their box.

“That’s frustrating, but what we’ve got to do now is find a way to beat teams who come here and sit behind the ball.

“That’s three games at home without a goal, and that’s not us. So I’ve got to find a way to sort that out.”

Wood’s goal on the verge of half-time was the crucial moment of the contest. After that, Halifax never recovered after what had been an even firsthalf.

After Chorley parked the bus, Boreham Wood brought something more akin to a Reliant Robin, and at least had a go.

They should have taken the lead after 10 minutes when topscorer Kabongo Tshimanga was one-on-one with Sam Johnson, but the Town keeper kept out his shot having charged off his line.

Town had been restricted to long-range efforts from Michael Duckworth and Jerome Binnom-Williams, but were certainly the more attacking side.

Neither side had really done enough to lead, but Boreham Wood edged ahead when Champion met a corner with a bullet header from six yards.

The longer the second-half went on, the less likely an equaliser became.

Town stuck to their principles of patient build-up play and trying work openings, but weren’t quick or accurate enough to create any pressure.

So when McDonnell curled in a superb free-kick from 20 yards out into the bottom corner with 15 remaining, it already looked game over.

That preceded Halifax’s best spell, with Dayle Southwell driving a shot wide, and Jeff King seeing an effort ping off the post.
