Lots to inspire and entertain at book festival

-

From the Poet Laureate to emerging writers, from BAFTA winner Sally Wainwright to leading academics, you will find lots to entertain, engage and inspire you at Todmorden Book Festival.

It includes an event with Oliver Morton, author of The Moon: A History for the Future at the Astronomy Centre, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Look out for the festival’s free family events too, including Chris Mould’s brilliant The Iron Man Reimagined, and try the Spoke-n-Word, the world’s first Random Poetry Generating Bicycle, at the Outdoor Market on Saturday, November 2.

Simon Armitage, who was appointed Poet Laureate in May, will open the festival on Friday, November 1 at Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre.

Sally Wainwright, who was due to appear at Todmorden Book Festival last November, will also appear at this year’s festival.

Andrew McMillan, patron of the festival, said: “If the greatest and hardest thing to do in culture is to get a new festival off the ground and up and running, then the second hardest thing has to be making that festival viable and successful so that it can keep returning.

“After last year’s stellar debut festival, the organisers have triumphed again with a second page of this bright new offering for Todmorden.”

The festival runs from Friday, November 1 to Saturday, November 9.

Tickets for all events are available from www. todmordenbookfestival. co.uk and in person from Todmorden Information Centre.
