Please keep helping us stock Santa’s shelves
October, very swiftly followed by Harveys of Halifax and Sainsbury’s in Halifax. These have always been the stalwart stores in the last eight years supporting the appeal.
Rotary would like to extend a very big thankyou to a certain ‘Pam B’, whom they do not know, have never met, but who is always just about the very first Calderdale resident/ shopper to fill in and return not just ‘a box’, but several, and each year during the appeal, Pam fills yet more, returning wonderfully filled boxes that any person, young or old, would love to receive as a present at Christmas.
Pam encompasses the true spirit of giving to probably people less fortunate than she. If we ever meet her, we would like to give her a Certificate of Achievement for all she has done to support the annual appeal, as it’s a few years now since her name appeared on the boxes being returned!
So where are all these filled Christmas boxes going to find homes? Well each year over twenty charities and good causes that work closely in the community with not only families and their children but with the lonely, the elderly, those who are seeking homes and those who are looking to make Calderdale their residence through Britain’s asylum process system will all benefit.
Last year more than 2,500 boxes were distributed and it is believed a similar number will be required this year.
Rotary continues to thank everyone who is participating, including the Community Foundation for Calderdale who support the funding each year of the supply of the boxes, but importantly you the readers, the shoppers, the workers and the families of the school children whom we know ultimately keep putting the smiles on so many faces at Christmas.
So keep up the good work, fill the many hundreds of boxes that are out there and let’s start returning them so Rotarians can get on with their job of sorting and stocking Santa’s shelves in readiness!
