THE OUTSTANDING game in Halifax Bowling Club’s Indoor Autumn season was in Division Two of the Wednesday Fours when top of the table Jack High (Con McGinley, Terry O’ Brien, Stuart Coates, Barry Wright) faced an inspired Fair of Face (Bronwyn Bannon, Lynda Canning, Paul Green, Geoff Harrison).

The game’s outstanding player was the lead player for Fair of Face, Bannon, who played a major part in her team’s 9-8 success.

At the second end Fair of Face scored a three and were never behind as they combined to cause one of the upsets of the season.

Springers (Christine Butler, Avril Humberstone, Elspeth Hartley, Joyce Depledge) are finding the going tough after being promoted from Division Two in the Spring season.

Their latest set-back was a 23-4 defeat in a rearranged game against Illingworth (Marian Quick, Kev Sharkey, Stuart Baker, David Laycock).

In Division Two of the Tuesday Evening Pairs the unbeaten 46ers (Derek Finch, Stewart Wright) played second in the table SID (Steve Swallow, Ian Ryding).

With Finch, the lead player for the 46ers, leading superbly off a long jack his team scored a four at the first end and the pair dominated the game to go into a 10-0 lead.

SID eventually got hold of the jack but only kept it for a couple of ends as 46ers took charge of the game to run out 14-2 winners and increase their lead at the top of the table.

Bee Hives (Ronata Eyres, Eddie Eyres) and Jammy Duo (L Mort and Neil Mort) had a nip and tuck encounter.

Bee Hives went into a 9-5 lead and at the final end were holding a two before Neil Mort played the shot of the evening as he ran the jack onto his team’s back bowls to hold a five.

Eddie Eyres, the skip for Bee Hives, opted to try and draw the shot rather than use weight but was short, for Jammy Duo to score a five and run out 10-9 winners.

Hard Lines (Maywynne Denby, Pam Berry, Peter Grant, Jack Pickles) faced the unbeaten K9s (Marian Quick, Malcolm Wragg, Stuart Baker, Barry Wright) in a Monday Afternoon Fours game.

Hard Lines raced into a 12-0 lead after 5 ends with a five, two, three and two singles.

K9s then got onto the score sheet with a five and two more singles saw Hard Lines increase their advantage to 14-5 before K9s won the remaining five ends to make the final score 1410 to Hard Lines.

Black Jacks (Margaret Matthews, Lesley Ellison, Peter Lomax, Brian Pickles) scored a five in their penultimate end against G2+A2 (Barbara Gee, Jimmy Bainbridge, Alan Fleming, David Gee) to make the score 13-12 to G2+A2, with one end to play.

Bainbridge bowled a superb bowl at the final end for his team to score a single and take the game by 14-12. Black Jacks won more ends than G2+A2 but the latter scored a five, four and a three in their total.

In a rearranged Friday Evening Pairs game, the leaders Clayton (Tony Riley, Paul Kaye) were given quite a scare by C Dogs (Ray Clegg, Michael Hutchinson) who moved into an early lead but Clayton just managed to get in front at the end of the game to win 12 shots to 10.

Marian Firth was in top form as MGM (Firth, Gordon Akroyd) beat Sisters (Del Haigh, Val Bax) in the Friday Evening Pairs.

It was remarked by the Sisters that Marian had a ‘homing device’ on the jack as her team scored a six and a five, as they ran out 18-9 winners.

Another pair in superb form were Red Woods ( Norma Mallinson, Con McGinley) in the Saturday Pairs Shield when they started their game against Marbles (Sylvia Allott, Heather

Smith) with a six before running out 22-5 winners.

There is a Monday morning taster session from 11am to noon for anyone wishing to try indoor bowling.

There is social bowling from 11.30am to 1pm on Thursday and 2.30pm on Saturday for anyone who would like a game.
