Moon rises up the ranks in Snails’ parkrun list

-

THE WET weather reduced the numbers competing in the penultimate round of the Sowerby Bridge Snails’ parkrun Championships, at Horton Park, in Bradford.

Jonathan Moon moved back into second place by taking maximum points in Division One, overtaking Peter Kerridge, who came second.

In Division Two, Caroline Hessleden took maximum points but Tracey Kerridge’s 29-points took her into second place behind Jamie Lund.

Jennifer Bennet claimed maximum points and pole position in Division Three.

Brian Crowther moved up to second place in Division Four and maximum points for Jen Sutton in Division Five moved her up to joint second place.

The final round takes place in Huddersfield at the end of November.

There were many personal best times to celebrate for the Snails competing in last Sunday’s Leeds Abbey Dash 10k.

The route had changed slightly this year, starting and finishing on the Headrow and taking in Kirkstall Abbey at half-way.

Robert Iannelli led the Snails home in time of 46:14 while Liz Park was the club’s first female across the line in a time of 56:03.

Alice Austin-Howarth was the latest Snail to break the sub-hour time for 10k in a time of 57:08.

She said: “I’m so glad I joined the club in January. I’ve had so much encouragement and can now say I’ve run 10k in under an hour.”

Jen Sutton improved her Abbey Dash time by no less than nine minutes and recorded a 10k personal best in the process.

She said: “I’m so proud of the improvement. The next goal is to go under the hour mark.”
