Stalwart Pearson and debutant Hoyles take the honours at Winter Alliance

-

STALWART OF the Halifax Huddersfield District Winter Alliance and last year’s President, Ed Pearson brought a new member, David Hoyles of Woodsome Hall, to the Dewsbury Alliance and won the am-am section with a fine 44 points.

The pair edged out the home club’s Harry Mowl and Ben Walker, who had 42 points.

Nigel Hirst playing in his last alliance at his home club as professional was just pipped for first place by Alliance President Richard Lambert, partnered by Steve Floyd.

The weather was kind, with no rain and a light westerly breeze, but the surface was still very wet from all the recent rain.

In spite of the wet ground, the course played well and this was reflected in the good scoring.

With only three pairs in the pro-am, Crosland Heath’s Richard Lambert and Steve Floyd (5) came in with 4 net birdies for 38 points, just one point better than Dewsbury’s Nigel Hirst and club Captain Ian Pearson (17), who also had 4 net birdies.

Last were Crosland Heath’s assistant Alex Malins and Captain

Dave Delooze (19), a further three points back.

A late entry, replacing an injured James Ward, and going out first were Harry Mowl (scr) and Ben Walker (2) of Dewsbury, who carded a fine 42 points with 6 birdies and no bogies to hold the lead for over 90 minutes.

Crosland Heath’s Ed Pearson (17) and Woodsome Hall’s David Hoyles (14) came in with 44 points, with a net eagle on the 12th and 8 net birdies for an unassailable lead, while their playing partners Graham Simpson (18) and George Carrol (14) of

Marsden took third place with 41 points.

The only other net eagles were scored by Duncan Ramsden (18) of Meltham on the par three last hole and by Sheldon McFadzean (22) of Bradley Hall on the par five eleventh.

The last Alliance before Christmas is at West End Golf Club on Tuesday, November 5.

84 LADIES played in the Winter Alliance at Dewsbury in a Greensome Stableford Competition over 18 holes.

Results: Gillian Goodlass, Carol Crowther (Outlane), 33 points, Wendy Stott (Ryburn) and Lisa

McIntosh (Bradley Park), 33 points, Judy Vickerman and C Murphy (Crosland Heath) 32 points.

The next Winter Alliance meeting will be held at Queensbury Golf Club on Wednesday, November 27. The format will be a 4BBB Competition over nine holes.
