TOWN BOSS Pete Wild has urged his side to back up their win at Sutton with another positive result against Torquay on Saturday.

Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory in London was Town’s first in five games following consecutive defeats to Bromley, Harrogate and Boreham Wood, and moved them back up to second in the National League.

“We’ve got to go and back it up on Saturday,” said Wild. “I’ve said in the dressing room there’s no point putting in all that hard work and then throwing it away on Saturday with a mediocre performance.

“We’ve got to back it up again now. It’s so hard to get in the position we’re in, we’ve got to back it up.

“It’s another good win,

it’s nothing to get carried away with. I’ve always been a firm believer that things will change, we’ve gone through a sticky spell, and the added pressure of being top of the league hasn’t helped us.

“We’ve had to have words across the last two or three weeks but it’s like any football club, it’s a 46-game season, and we’ve got to keep the lads on track.”

Torquay, who have former Halifax striker Manny Duku in their ranks, are sixth in the Conference.

Gary Johnson’s side have won six of their last seven matches, beating Wrexham 1-0 at home on Tuesday night, and boast the league’s joint-top scorer in 12goal Jamie Reid.

“They’re strong, they’ve got an experienced manager,” Wild said.”I worked under Gary’s son Lee (at Oldham), and I learned a lot off him.

“Gary’s an excellent manager and he’s had an excellent career.

“Jamie Reid has scored goals at every level he’s played, their wingers are very quick and sharp.

“You can expect a really forward thinking team that will be very resilient. Gary is very good at producing teams that play winning football.

“What we did on Tuesday, we’re going to need in spades again on Saturday.”
