Mum-of-two’s death is ‘heart wrenching’
FLORAL TRIBUTES have veiled a street in Halifax town centre in memory of a young Elland woman.
Mum-of-two Levi Ogden, 26, died in hospital on Sunday morning after being fatally injured in Silver Street around 2am.
Her ‘heart-wrenching’ death has since seen the community pull together to create online fundraising and other campaigns, in a bid to raise cash for funeral costs and help her two children as the Christmas holidays approach.
Friend Coral Dearden, 31, of Elland, who set up the fundraising driver, said: “We spoke almost every day as our children go to the same school.
“She was a much-loved member of our town and that shows in the JustGiving page.
“Everyone who knows Levi will say she was the most beautiful, loving, caring mum.
“It’s heart wrenching - she’s left a huge hole in lots of lives and will be missed, but as a town we’ve come together and will do whatever it takes to make life easier for her family and children.”
Ms Ogden’s cousin, StaceyAnn Moorhouse, 29, of Halifax, who created a second fundraising campaign, said: “A suggestion was made it’d be a great idea for donation buckets on pub bars, in salons, and takeaways.
“We’ve had around 30 requests for buckets (donated by OiPPS) from places such as The Lewins, Mecca Bingo, and the Piece Hall. We’re hoping to get the buckets out this weekend so people can start donating. In four weeks we’ll collect them all and have this given to my aunt and Levi’s mum, Clare Ogden.”
Police launched an investigation following her death and a 26-year-old man appeared in Bradford Crown Court yesterday via video link from HMP Armley in front of Judge Jonathan Rose, charged with the murder of Ms Ogden.
Judge Rose adjourned the hearing until Monday January 6 2020 where the defendant is next due to appear from custody to enter his plea.
