Liz hoping to make a difference
DISABILITY CAMPAIGNER Liz Leach Murphy has been chosen to help lead a new government initiative to break down the barriers disabled people and their families face.
Liz and seven other appointees will lead nine new Regional Stakeholder Networks. They will amplify the voices of disabled people and disability organisations in regions across England, reporting back to government on a range of issues including transport, housing and employment.
Mrs Leach Murphy, from Halifax, is the founder of Imagineer, and was selected for her years of experience working in the area of disability.
Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson said: “Liz has a wealth of experience, expertise and skills that will help her to tackle the specific issues facing disabled people across Yorkshire.
I am delighted at the calibre of the successful candidates and looking forward to working with the Regional Stakeholder Network to drive change and improve the lives of disabled people across the country.”
Mrs Leach Murphy said: “I want to bring people together to share and gather information about what really matters to them.
“I’m very passionate about making a real difference in the lives of those with disabilities or who are at a social disadvantage, and I believe this role is a meaningful vehicle to make these differences.”
The chairs will convene meetings with network members within their regions and work with the Government’s Office for Disability Issues to help inform future policy.
