Holden and Malone join Priestley and Helliwell in qualifying as final day looms

THE LATEST qualifiers in the Total Active Pairs at Elland CA&BC are John Holden and Brendan Malone, of Elland and Siddal, and Richard Priestley and Richard Helliwell of Old Town.

Holden and Malone opened with an impressive start, trailing 12-2 to Fisher and Jeffries of Mytholmroyd.

They slowly inched their way back into the game, trailing at 14-8 and 16-13 and at 18 across, the Mytholmroyd pair was lying game before Holden came in with a wonder bowl which led to a 21-18 victory.

Their next game was against Nick Oddy and Clare Broadbent of Ripponden.

With some great bowls they eased to a 21-7 victory.

In the qualifying game against Turnbull and Bastow of Ilkley, they were always in front and went on to secure a 21-12 triumph.

Helliwell and Priestley opened with a bye and then played a very entertaining pair in Hodson and Wright from Southport, winning the battle to 19.

Their qualifying game was against two well known Yorkshire bowlers Michael Sweeney and Stuart King.

The scores were level at 9 across before Helliwell and Priestley had a 10 break and it was all over as they eased to a 2112 victory.

This week sees the final week of qualifying before the final on November 17.
