TOP-OF-THE-TABLE HEATH restart their Yorkshire One campaign after a weekend off with a trip to West Leeds.

Their hosts have dropped back into the league after a short spell in North East One.

After a faltering start to their season, losing three of their first four games, they are currently fourth in the table, having picked up a string of results and showed improved form.

Heath currently have only one defeat in eight starts, with the best points difference in the competition.

League positions aside, West Leeds are always a tough outfit to get the better of and generally have pace and talent in their three-quarters.

The coaching team are happy with the current form and will be expecting the forwards to once more supply quality ball for the team to play their structures off.

Head coach Dave Harrison said: “We’ve trained well this week.

“Tuesday was a particularly tough session following a week off and I was really pleased with the lads’ attitude and application.”

Last weekend, Heath’s seconds travelled the short distance to Copley to take on Old Rishworthians.

Both sides put in a spirited performance in poor conditions and Heath came away 2012 winners.

This week, they too play West Leeds - but this time the game is at West Vale.

Heath sit midtable in the Merit League, though they’ve played two less games than the leaders.

West Leeds are firmly at the bottom, so Heath will be looking for another victory plus, hopefully, collecting five League points along the way.

HEATH UNDER 8s/9s played Stanley Rodillians and Cleckheaton in a three-way match.

They had good numbers, the under 9s fielding two teams while the under 8s were able to help out the other teams with willing volunteers.

It was a brilliant day of rugby for the under 8’s, with three games in total, two against Cleckheaton and one against Stanley.

The under nines came up against a strong Cleckheaton

side in a great contest. The games against Rods proved to be great fun with plenty of space to play during a five-on-five format.

Jaden Mollet and Max Jowett both scored twice while Scotty Mitchell caused chaos, with Ben Ingham making good gains.

Jasper Haigh scored twice while Sonny Gordon was a persistent threat setting up the try of day with superb support work by Lennon Wood as Heath just came out on top.

Gordon pipped George Blackmore for the player of the week prize.

RISHWORTHIANS UNDER 14s lost four-tries-to-nil against a Rochdale side looking to avenge a 17-33 defeat earlier this season.

The visitors didn’t get their rucking game going and Rochdale turned them over in the loose too many times for them to build momentum.

Rochdale had some big forwards and fast, powerful backs and Rishies were 15-0 down at half time, with a try each by their wingers and one by a big forward.

There were some passages of great defending by Rishworthians in the second half but not enough cutting edge offensively, as Rochdale scored right at the whistle after being held up in-goal twice during the half to make the final score 20-0.
