Rishworthians go for fifth win in-a-row with Barnsley the visitors to Copley

-

RISHWORTHIANS HOST Barnsley in Yorkshire Two keen to stretch their winning run to five matches.

Those results have seen them consolidate second place in the division while their opponents lie next to bottom.

Clubs were without a game last week due to the Rugby World Cup final, but Barnsley’s game the week before was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

That week Rishworthians gave a dogged display to come away with a victory at Northallerton.

Director of Rugby Jon Bake was full of praise for that performance, particularly for the solid defence on the steeply sloping pitch and described his team’s work rate off the ball as “magnificent.”

While Barnsley look to be struggling near the bottom, he stresses Rishworthians cannot be complacent.

“They are likely to have a big pack, so we have to give 100 per cent up front, stay focused and disciplined,” he said.

They stick with much the same players although Anthony Shoesmith, Ben Waud and Fraser Swarbrooke are all likely to return to the squad after missing the Northallerton game.

THERE WAS a fantastic result for Rishworthians under 11s Cougars with a 15-5 success against a very well organised and disciplined team from Yarnbury.

The game was close throughout with both teams swapping scores to make the half-time score 8-7 to the Cougars with tries from Seth Brookes (2), Josh Cooke (2), Ivan Ward, Oliver Boyd, Jared Holroyd and Robert Codd.

In the second half, the Cougars began to dominate the ruck and maul more which resulted in turnover ball and led to further tries from Cooke (2), Holroyd, Ward and an impressive hat-trick by Tobias Stansfield.

It was a comprehensive team performance with great build up work from Oscar Marsden, Arron Lapsley, Logan Marshall and winger Thomas Sheehan.
