Seconds on the wrong end of the scoreline despite bright start at Dewsbury

-

HALIFAX LADIES second team finished on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline against Dewsbury.

Halifax started the game well, with strong defence keeping a well drilled Dewsbury at bay.

Halifax had a few chances midway through the first half, with great attacking from Emily Crowe and Steph Jones down the flanks creating chances for forwards Izzy Crowe and Hannah Speakman.

But they slipped a goal behind after a deflection on the far post left the defence frustrated.

They were not behind for long as Crowe scored an excellent goal and Halifax missed a great opportunity to take the lead on the back post soon after.

But having failed to take their chances, they were made to pay when Dewsbury retook the lead after a breakaway goal.

Fax started the second half well, piling the pressure on Dewsbury and creating more chances but couldn’t find the back of the net.

A yellow card saw Fax down to 10 for five minutes and Dewsbury took advantage, putting another goal past keeper Tracy Ingleson despite Cat Vose,

Steph Hoyle, Beth Manson and Gemma Robinson making some crucial tackles.

HALIFAX BOYS under 14s travelled to Thirsk for their second set of games and came away with two wins and a draw.

They were a little slow out of the blocks against Leeds Adel, but managed to get a 0-0 draw. They certainly woke up in the second game, a 5-0 demolition of host club Thirsk.

The back four of Archie Hall, Ace Parker, Jacob Mackrill and Jacob Maclean did a good job on the Thirsk forwards and allowed the team to get the ball forward to the dangerous Jamie Hereford.

Luke Pearson opened the scoring from close range, then it was the Dominic Taylor show with four good goals from the Halifax centre forward.

The third game was against Wakefield and Halifax were excellent on the break, with Maclean controlling the game and with the help of Amos Mackrill, playing his first game, they got the team moving down the right channels.

Hereford, Pearson and Taylor had chances but the Wakefield keeper played well to keep the score goalless for the first 15 minutes.

Taylor was not to be denied with an unstoppable shot after good work from Hancock and Kendell.

Taylor got his second soon after with another thunderbolt shot high into the net after a lovely pass from Hereford.

Wakefield got a goal back to deny the excellent Charlie Slim three clean sheets after his defenders had a rare lapse.

The game finished 2-1, but should have been more comfortable.
